Bredene presents its beach and dunes as a continuous landscape. Begin at a specific access to the sea and explore from there. We suggest first identifying the path you will also use on your return. With children, choose a recognisable meeting point near the entrances instead of a temporary mark on the sand. This keeps the starting point identifiable when you walk back later.
Walk with a simple return route
Choose a short out-and-back walk for a first visit. A headwind can make the return harder than the outward leg: turn around before everyone is tired. Stay in the publicly accessible parts of the dunes and follow authorised paths. The municipality identifies Kapelstraat and Duinenstraat as the shopping area of Bredene Duinen. This gives an option for a break or supplies before returning to the beach. Choose the route that suits your group beforehand.
Different uses of the beach
Official information identifies a naturist area. Read the signs on site to select a beach section that suits your visit. Municipal rules also deal separately with camping, dogs, horses and kite flying. According to the page consulted on 29 October 2026, camping and campfires are prohibited on the beach and in the dunes. Read the current municipal page for exact seasonal limits. Do not apply rules remembered from another resort.
Swimming and adapted access
Before a swim, check whether supervision is actually operating during your visit and follow lifeguard instructions. A busy beach does not automatically mean lifeguards are present. The municipality also provides information about borrowing beach wheelchairs. Ask in advance about availability, conditions and the collection point. Enter the address of your chosen beach access in the De Lijn planner. This avoids arriving in another area with an unexpected additional walk before reaching your destination.
