Staying on the Belgian coast without a car: choosing a convenient base
Accommodation, trains, Kusttram and walks: organise several days with straightforward local journeys.

Choose your accommodation on a map
For a car-free stay, first compare the walk between station or stop and your accommodation. Include access to meals, groceries and the main activity. A sea-view address may involve more travelling than somewhere slightly inland. Our advice is to simulate arrival with luggage and the evening walk before booking. Choosing the right base has a stronger effect on daily comfort than a highly detailed programme created afterwards. Consider the person who least enjoys long walks when judging whether a location really is convenient for the whole group.
Group visits by area
The Kusttram links coastal resorts; De Lijn publishes timetables, tickets and disruption information. Use it to plan coherent days rather than repeated journeys between opposite ends of the coast. Our suggestion is one day near your accommodation, one in a neighbouring resort and a museum or nature day according to the weather. Locate the arrival stop and final walk for each outing. A destination on the tram line does not mean its museum or nature area is beside the stop. Include that last section when deciding what fits your day.

Check each transport stage
Plan the railway journey with SNCB/NMBS and local travel with De Lijn. Compare ticket options for your profile and check what each covers. For mobility aids, pushchairs or bicycles, consult specific conditions rather than assuming every service works the same way. Check engineering work before departure and keep a fallback route. Download useful information so a connection does not depend entirely on internet access being available at that moment. Give anyone who may return independently the accommodation address and relevant stop, together with the details needed to reach it.
Keep a comfortable rhythm
Our advice is one main activity per day and meals in the same area. Do not routinely plan to take the last possible departure back to your accommodation. Find a short local walk as an option for a quieter day. For departure day, think about luggage between checkout and your train; do not assume storage exists without confirmation. A car-free stay becomes simpler when ordinary moments such as shopping, breaks and returning to your room receive attention alongside the sights. That leaves room to adjust plans rather than organising every day around a tight sequence of connections.
