A day with time to walk
Our suggestion for visitors interested in houses and gardens is to explore the Dumont quarter from the public streets, then head towards the sea. A separate day can focus on the dunes, using the provincial Duinpanne visitor centre to prepare. An urban walk is easy to shorten; a sandy loop requires more attention to effort and the return route. A visible track through a dune is not proof that walking there is permitted. Follow authorised paths and local signs.
Prepare a visit to De Westhoek
The province locates De Westhoek between De Panne and the French border and presents Duinpanne as a base for discovering nature. Ask for a map of open paths before choosing a loop. Check the surface if you are bringing a pushchair. Carry drinking water and a layer against the wind, and choose a shorter alternative beforehand. With children, a clear, manageable loop often works better than a long improvised crossing. Remember to allow enough energy for the return.
